BVMRF Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of VA Research at JJP VAMC
Celebrating VA Research Week 2025 with dedicated support from BVMRF and JJP VAMC leadership and research team members from services including Infectious Diseases, Spinal Cord Injury, and the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC)
The Bronx Veterans Medical Research Foundation (BVMRF) proudly celebrated VA Research Week at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJP VAMC). This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as it marked the 100th Anniversary of VA Research - a century of innovation, advancement, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Veterans and the broader community.
JJP VAMC and BVMRF highlighted groundbreaking local research initiatives, including the Neurorehabilitation Program, which explores interventions like electrical spinal stimulation, brain stimulation, and targeted exercises to support individuals with spinal cord injury. The event also highlighted the mission of the Bronx Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC), a VA Center of Excellence dedicated to advancing care for older Veterans through cutting-edge research in geriatrics and palliative care.
Visitors learned about cutting-edge studies, the value of volunteering in VA research, and how BVMRF supports the infrastructure that drives scientific discovery at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center and the Hudson Valley Health Care System.
VA Research has been, and always will be, at the forefront of innovation. VA researchers make up innovative teams that have historically developed effective treatments for tuberculosis, invented the CAT scan and the pacemaker, and performed the first-ever liver transplant. VA’s research arm is instrumental in translating science into actionable solutions that improve health outcomes for Veterans and the American people.
