Core Research Infrastructure Overview
BVMRF is committed to supporting Investigators and research staff in facilitating high-quality, efficient, compliant, and ethical clinical research study conduct and management in accordance with government and industry standards. Additionally, BVMRF is committed to facilitating effective and timely clinical trial initiation by continuously evaluating and improving institutional processes and developing clinical trial management tools.
The core research (CoRe) infrastructure at the Bronx Veterans Medical Research Foundation, Inc. (BVMRF) is a comprehensive, integrated support system designed to accelerate and sustain high impact research at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJP VAMC) and the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (VA HVHCS). This infrastructure brings together expert-led cores that provide essential services across the full research continuum-from protocol development and regulatory compliance to data analysis, mentorship, and community engagement. These services ensure operational excellence, scientific rigor, and alignment with the VA’s mission to advance Veterans’ health.
CoRe Services
-
The CoRe is a multi-disciplinary research team to serve as a central team handling the day-to-day administration of clinical research projects from various services. The team is made up of experienced research nurses, coordinators, and research staff to assist investigators with participant recruitment, protocol adherence, and day-to-day study management in clinical environments.
-
The CoRe Lab offers access to specialized laboratory capabilities for specimen processing, storage and shipment in support of translational and clinical studies. This service ensures that investigators have access to state of the art instruments and equipment, as well as trained laboratory technicians to help them deliver high quality results in their projects. Indirectly enhance care for Veterans.
-
The Reg CoRe provides centralized, expert support for investigators with regulatory submissions and compliance documentation related to research projects administered through BVMRF. The goal is to ensure all research projects are initiated, approved, and maintained in full compliance with federal, state, VA, and institutional requirements.
-
The Stat CoRe provides critical support in study design, data management, statistical analysis, and regulatory compliance. A central component of this support is the assistance with the VA Data Access Request Tracker (DART) application process to facilitate access to sensitive, VA-owned data. The Statistical Core Unit will serve as a crucial resource for research project initiation, offering expertise to ensure that studies are scientifically rigorous, efficient, and compliant with VA data regulations.
-
The Animal CoRe supports animal research conducted under the VA oversight by providing certified veterinary technicians, husbandry services, and technical support for surgical and non-surgical animal protocols-ensuring ethical, humane, and compliant care of animal subjects in accordance with federal regulations and institutional standards.
These cores are approved by the VA Research committees, and are intended to ensure that all Investigators (regardless of their research experience) have the tools, expertise, and support they need to lead innovative research projects that directly improve the lives of Veterans.
